STOBS CLASSIC CANCELLED
The NESCRO competition programme suffered another blow with the announcement that Hawick & Border Car Club's Stobs Classic event won't run this year, the reason apparently being a lack of organisers. This will be sad news to NESCRO regulars for the Stobs Castle venue is extremely popular , the former WW1 training camp offering the opportunity for some extremely long and interesting tests. No announcement has been made about a rescheduling of the event and it leaves an unwelcome gap in the Summer programme of events.
LAKE DISTRICT CLASSIC
Regulations are currently circulating for the Lake District Classic run by Wigton Motor Club which will again use the format which proved so popular last year with the 13 test in the Penrith area augmented by several regularities in the picturesque Eden Valley . Headquarters for the event will again be the Penrith Truckstop , entry fee is £95, for more details contact Ron Palmer This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. THE DOONHAMER
Coming up on September 23rd is the re-formatted Doonhamer Historic Rally run by South of Scotland Car Club which this year sees a reduction in the road mileage, a new Start & Finish venue and several new test venues. This year's event will be based at the Barony Agricultural College near Dumfries which will also host the opening two tests, then a very simple, easy to read road book will guide competitors round the route which includes both gravel and tarmac tests, two of which will be at the new lunch venue. The £90 entry fee includes SoSCC club membership, bacon rolls at the start, lunch and a meal at the finish For details contact Roland Proudlock on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. THE HEXHAM HISTORIC RALLY
Plans are well advanced for November 10th's Hexham Historic Rally, billed as "The World's Friendliest Rally" the Hexham is the last of the traditional "Road" type Historic rallies now running in the North East. It will feature a town centre start from the old lead mining centre of Allendale and the 100 plus mile route, 99% of which is on asphalt, will feature some classic, traffic free roads in the North Pennines, an area that is seldom used despite having some superb rallying terrain. The organisers are again hoping to keep the entry fee to a very modest "Below £50" figure and this will include club membership, quality awards, tea at the start and the famous Hexham "Apres Rallye" buffet at the finish.
Specimen navigation instructions are available for anyone not sure of the format, all details from Ed Graham at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
On behalf of Whickham & District Motor Club I would like to welcome you to the 2nd running of the Shaw Trophy Rally as a classic car event. This year’s event will build on the lessons learnt from the inaugural classic event last year and we plan to offer a similar format of at least a dozen special driving tests linked by public road sections, with a couple of regularities to keep the navigators on their toes.
The well known Berwick Classic Rally, probably the most popular and well supported event on the North of England historic motorsport scene, will undergo a radical shake up for 2012 with the event’s chief organiser, Stuart Bankier, bringing in a whole raft of changes which he hopes will refresh the event and stimulate an increase in entries.
Following hot on the heels of their election to the Association of North East and Cumbria Car Clubs, NESCRO have now been elected to membership of the Scottish Association of Car Clubs giving the organisation a platform to promote Historic rallying and to voice the concerns of their member clubs and their constituent members.
The MSA have recently published rule changes for 2012 one of which has an impact on cars competing in historic road rallies. I think this rule is unnecessary and contrary to the wishes of many competitors. I would like to see it revoked and here is why:
NESCRO, the umbrella organisation which co-ordinated historic rallying for member clubs throughout the North of England and Scotland was unanimously elected to membership of the Association of North East And Cumbria Car Clubs at their quarterly meeting which took place last Thursday. Welcoming NESCRO into the association, the Chair, Mrs. Ron Sandham expressed delight that NESCRO would be working with the Association and stated that their input and wealth of knowledge regarding historic events would be most welcome.
